The theme I have
chosen to display throughout the three short clips is War. The three
atmospheres I have selected mimic the emotions felt during and after a war has
occurred; Fear, grief and hope. To demonstrate fear I will utilize point of
view shots (‘pov’), thus empathizing how it would feel to be amid the war
yourself, and to get a grasp of the violence taking place. The ‘pov’ shots will
contain extremes, from fast to slow movement, helping the viewer identify with
the unpredictability of the war grounds. Grief, the second atmosphere being
created will be displayed through the use of darkened, slow tracking shots.
These will contain pathetic fallacy, therefore creating a gloomy monotone
throughout. The tracking shots showing the morning families will be utilized
throughout to help the viewer understand where the grief is coming from.
Finally, hope will be demonstrated through the use of a fade in between shots.
During this the image will brighten to full strength, creating an uplifting
effect. Pull back shots will also be employed during, as the camera will
track back from a subject revealing the context of the scene, as people are
waiting for love ones to return, and for peace amongst the societies. This is where
the hope will be created. Throughout the three atmospheres’ the background
music will be a dominant factor into producing the ambience desired.
